Fishing...Beginner's Luck?

This afternoon, my husband and I headed to a nearby state park for a hike and were thrilled to find a beautiful trail that meandered along the bank of a river.

About 15 minutes into our stroll, Mr. Handsome (a fishing enthusiast) spotted a fellow fisherman and struck up a conversation.

The man turned out to be quite friendly and talkative. He had a second pole and offered it to my husband. That was when I knew our hike was over. Thankfully, the view off the pier was so beautiful that I didn't mind.

Mr. Handsome took a few dozen casts without any success and asked if I wanted to give it a try.

"Mark my words, I'm going to get a fish on my first cast," I announced (not all that seriously). My husband chuckled. But lo and behold, less than a minute later, I was reeling in a medium-sized crappie. Mr. Handsome was impressed, although he joked that it was just beginner's luck.

The sun was setting quickly, and by the time we made it back to our car, it was completely dark and about 45 degrees, but the delicious fried fish that we enjoyed for dinner was well worth it! (I know it's not the healthiest thing in the world, but it's what we were both craving.)

Love to read stories about people taking time to enjoy each other and building memories. As a bonus you got dinner out of it. Way to go!!

    3. We both like animals. I'm sure we will have some eventually, but right now we live in a small rental house, so it wouldn't work well. Our neighbor has a cat that comes by our window every few days, and I usually feed him. :)

Right now, we keep busy with our other blogs, but perhaps in the future we will resume the Willis blog. We have spent time with the Willises a few times this fall, and they're doing well. :)

Enjoy these special moments! I've been married for 12 years (together for 15) and I still absolutely love my husband. But I think most women will admit that marriage and relationships change. Nothing can stay the same. We now have 2 amazing school age kids but life is just in a different place. You can't get back that new marriage and that time when it's just the 2 of you, pre children. There are many positive and wonderful things are about a seasoned marriage and family too, but you can never go back to the beginning. Enjoy yours! :)

    1. Thank you for those words of wisdom. Sometimes I find myself eager to jump to the next step, but when I hear wise women like you encourage me to enjoy life with just myself and my husband, it helps me remember to be content with where I am right now.

    1. Hi there!

Lots of trial and error, but I also learned a lot from my mom. During college, I lived in a house with 40 Christian girls, and once a week I had to cook for everyone. I suppose that's where I learned to prepare tasty meals very quickly.

    2. My husband has a few favorite dishes, but I think he would have to say that his all-time favorite is homemade Chipotle. (The recipe for that is on my Recipes page: http://www.nashvillewife.com/p/recipes.html)

    1. Hi there,

I usually cook our fish with Andy's breading, although I'm looking forward to trying the recipes that several readers suggested in the comments section of a recent post.
