Ice Skating

How did you celebrate New Year's? Mr. Handsome had a three-day weekend, so we left home at 4pm on December 31st and drove six hours to his family's house, arriving just in time to watch the ball drop and ring in the New Year with sparkling grape juice.

The rest of our visit was primarily spent playing board games, watching movies, and pigging out on leftover Christmas cookies. On January 2nd, we decided that we needed to do something active, so several of us went skating at a local ice rink. (Mr. Handsome's parents stayed home with my 17-month-old niece, and his two brothers were out with friends.)

There were at least 150 people on the rink, which made for some pretty bumpy ice. (Mr. Handsome jokes that we might as well have been skating on gravel.) At one point, my two youngest sisters-in-law and I were all holding hands, with my husband in the middle for stability.

    1. Aww, thanks, Ruth! The brand is Kut from the Kloth, if that helps. My mom bought it for me a few years ago. She's great at getting quality clothing for a good price. :)

Hi! I spent NYE with four good friends of mine: two had just gotten married two weeks earlier, so we were at their new apartment, then there was me, another girl (who's the bride's twin) and a boy.
We had dinner, chatted and had a good time (and a good wine- I like responsible drinking from time to time), then watched a movie.
    Great evening in great company!

I'm glad you all had a good time. I tried ice skating once, and that was enough for me. It's a lot harder than it looks, but it's fun to watch people skate.

We had some family friends over and played games for a few hours (I recommend the game Telestrations... HILARIOUS, and Mr. Handsome would be good at it with his art skills!) and then counted down and blew noisemakers on our front porch at midnight!

  9. Haha, last week people were ice skating on the streets here in the Netherlands. Black ice had turned the streets into ice rinks :)

    2. No,I didn't. There was black ice in the Northern Netherlands (where I grew up), but not in the part of the Netherlands where I live. Besides that, I don't really like ice skating.
