After our big snowfall last weekend, I begged my husband to accompany me on a hike around a local park. He graciously came along, although he admitted that walking outdoors in 30-degree weather and biting wind is not his cup of tea.He must be in the majority, as there was not another soul at the park (except for a woolly mammoth or two…just kidding). I, on the other hand, was happy as a clam. Yes, it was cold, but the beauty of the snow-covered trees made up for it.
So I have to ask: Do you think winter walks are enjoyable? Or would you rather stay inside and drink hot cocoa?

Cold winter walks!! Hot chocolate and fires are so much better when they can warm you up after a cold walk!

Hot cocoa!!!
Although I do enjoy going sledding once in a while (by that I mean once a year)
Summer is by far my favorite season.
What is your favorite season Ellie?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
My favorite time of year is late spring, when the flowers are in full bloom and it's warm but not super hot.

Ugh, grew up where snow is measured by feet, not inches. Now too old to tolerate it. Lungs can't take the cold. Can barely get warm enough inside the house! Enjoy it while you can.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
That's too bad. Although I love winter walks, I also enjoy curling up inside a warm house. π

Winter walks–definately! I love it! The cold wind makes it exciting:) Here in England we don't have snow at the moment, but a brisk walk by the sea on a chilly, windy day…..thrilling! Haha.. Just don't forget the gloves and hat! Your walk sounded nice as well.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
A winter walk by the sea; that sounds wonderful! I don't think I've ever been by the sea during winter.

We try to go for a seaside walk every day if we can (less than a mile from our house) and to hear the waves rolling in (or in most cases in the winter, crashing!) or watching guys fishing, getting coal from the beach or even surfing (yes, in January!) is quite enjoyable:) I feel way too cooped up in the winter if I stay indoors too long:/ You had the right idea for that walk…and I'm sure Mr. Handsome ended up enjoying the walk after all?? I enjoy your blog–the simple pleasures of life:) Sweet.

This is so cute! π And that's a hard question for me! But I think I would choose the walk…and then come back inside for hot cocoa and a warm fire! π
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Yes! Hot cocoa after the walk is a must! π

Do you have a method/recipe to make your cocoa? I find some preprepared mixes or coffee shop preperations don't really taste like cocoa and have chemicals that make me feel sick and icky, (which is not in one's agenda).
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I agree that most prepared mixes taste fake. I mix about 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder with 1 teaspoon of sugar and 2 Tablespoons of milk. Then I heat a cup of milk in the microwave and add the cocoa mixture.

Just had a mixture yesterday which had all good ingredients but there was one not good – Called acesulfame potassium. It is a potent sugar substitute and in my system the presence of it manifested as after tastes, headache, systemic sensastions…oooh, not fun.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I'm sorry to hear that! Hope you're feeling better today!

I would have to choose the hot cocoa. As beautiful as a walk looking at snow covered trees sounds. The rods in my back would prevent me from being out in the cold for long.

Staying inside for too long is only fun for a few days…you have to get your exercise and fresh air somehow!! I get cabin fever!

I would stay in side and drink Hot Cocoa. The walks are nice in the spring and summer.
The cold air makes my blood sugar go down.

I agree with your husband a walk outside in 30 degree weather is not my cup of tea either.

Ellie, do you have a cocoa recipe too?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi there,
Here's my cocoa recipe: I mix about 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder with 1 teaspoon of sugar and 2 Tablespoons of milk. Then I heat a cup of milk in the microwave and add the cocoa mixture.

I always do it in a mixer and add a bit of flour to make it less liquid: it's really good, let us know if you try it!
Also, some people say that hearing up milk in the microwave is dangerous, because of some chemical processes that go on. I don't know if it's proven to be that way, but if you drink milk it's worth doing a little research in it, I think. π

Thanks for sharing, Laura! We do drink milk, so I will definitely be looking that up.

I prefer to take my walks in the spring or fall. In the winter, I prefer to stay inside and drink hot cocoa and read a good book.

Walking in the snow is fun, but I can only take so much cold wind. π Cocoa and a good book is for me!
Karla
Definitely go out in the snow!!

I am in Wisconsin and can appreciate all four seasons. I believe God gives such beauty to each one. Taking walks outside is one of my favorite things to do, however, I also like hot cocoa – π What is the climate like in Nashville through the four seasons? Are you experiencing any of the violent weather that has been in the recent forcast?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi there,
I agree that each season has it's own beauty. We are enjoying the Nashville climate so far! Our summer was long and hot, but after a while, we became accustomed to the heat and were still able to go on bike rides and hikes (with plenty of water). The temperatures fell very slowly throughout the fall, and we still had some very nice days in November. Last week, we had a snowfall that was moderate by Northern standards but was the biggest Nashville has seen since 2003. This week, the temperatures will be in the high 50s and 60s. We are told that the cold weather will probably return but that the winters are usually very short.
Blessings,
Ellie

I love winter walks. Especially during or right after a fresh snowfall. I'm originally from Minnesota and now live in North Dakota so winter cold is no stranger to me and my family! π

I love winter hikes! If your husband can't handle 30F (~-1C) never bring him to Canada (you're from Canada aren't you?)…
It was -25C in my neck of the woods I last week, we still snuck in a snowshoe adventure. Snow covered trees and lakes are just so pretty π
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Yep, I'm originally from Canada. :)Something tells me he wouldn't be a fan of Canadian winters. Lol.

I would go for a nice snowwalk and after that have my warm cocoa in front of the fire place! But this year we're actually having a nice winter! Still 15`C in november! It was beautiful outside!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
15C in November is glorious! We have had some cold weather, but our winter has been fairly mild, as well.
Blessings,
Ellie
