Left to Right:
Mineral Fusion Valley Liquid Eyeliner*
ZuZu Luxe Raven Liquid Eyeliner
Mineral Fusion Neutral Concealer duo
Mineral Fusion Fragile Eye Shadow Trio
Mineral Fusion Stunning Eye Shadow Trio
Mineral Fusion Flashy Blush
Mineral Fusion Chestnut Volumizing Mascara
Mineral Fusion Gem Lipstick
Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12-hr Smoothing Eye Primer
*My favorite eyeliner is the one by ZuZu Luxe. The Mineral Fusion eyeliner is easy to apply, but it tends to flake off towards the end of the day.
To avoid the harmful chemicals found in conventional hairspray and hair gel, I now use Medium Hold Sunflower and Citrus Hair Spray by Andalou Naturals and Hi Shine Styling Gel by Jason. Both products work well for my hair, although I will warn you that the hair spray is wetter than conventional aerosol hair sprays, so you have to give it a few minutes to dry.

Could you make a tutorial on how you do your hair and put your makeup on?

Dear Ellie,
Thank you so much for your beauty post. Where can these products be purchased? I, too, am in the process of looking for healthier alternatives.
High Fructose Corn Syrup is so unhealthy and you would not believe how many foods have this listed in their ingredients.
May God Bless and happy Sunday to you.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Maggie,
They are all available on Amazon. Tarte products are sold at most Sephora stores, and Mineral Fusion and ZuZu Luxe are sold at Whole Foods.
I also try to avoid high fructose corn syrup. π
God Bless you!

I asked a dietion she said that High Fructose corn syrup is ok to have if it's at the bottom. If it's saids High Fructose at the top it's not good for you.
Anonymous
That's because the first ingredient mentioned has the highest quantity in the product.

I don't use makeup. I don't even use hair spray. So I won't be hurting my face.

If you lightly dust your eye makeup with loose powder, it will stay put all day.

There's a book called
"The Natural Beauty Solution Break Free From Commercial Beauty Products Using Simple Recipes and natural ingredients"
The author's name is Mary Helen Leonard.
You can get it at the library, bookstore, and online.

Thanks for your post. Where do you purchase these products?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I buy most of them on Amazon, but they are also sold on the company's websites. If you have a Whole Foods nearby, they sell Mineral Fusion and ZuZu Luxe.

Yes, Having natural products is important. I also only buy products that are cruelty-free. That means the products were not tested on innocent animals. You can find an app on the Beagle Freedom Project website called the Cruelty-Cutter that scans item to tell you right away.

Thanks for sharing. I just looked at the boxes, and all these products are cruelty-free. π

I've been looking for a nontoxic blush, lipstick, etc. without much success. The blush you mentioned sounded interesting, so I went to Amazon and looked at reviews. One review said (EWG is a great resource, by the way):
1.0 out of 5 stars Not safe!!!
BySBTjaxon August 11, 2014
I am new to going organic with my beauty products. I initially thought "mineral" meant safe and natural. I was wrong. Per EWG's SkinDeep database, this product has a high risk of developmental and reproductive toxicity, medium risk of cancer, and medium risk for allergies, yielding an overall rating of "medium" in health hazards. Way too much risk for me. Too bad, because the color is really pretty on my tan skin. If you still want to consider the product, know that it's about the size of a half-dollar coin in a shallow container and does not come with an applicator. Little value for the price!
Some MyChelle products are pretty good in terms of being nontoxic. iHerb.com sells this and various other brands. Real Purity mascara is pretty good and nontoxic. Honeybee Gardens eyeliners are also pretty good and I've gotten them for good prices too. (Nontoxic products can be way more expensive, and although I'm frugal in many ways, I won't skimp when it comes to products that are healthy vs. toxic. You can't put a price tag on your health.)
I haven't had any success at finding nontoxic hair spray, so I don't use any. Hair products can really be great from an aesthetic standpoint, but I'm not willing to risk it from a health standpoint. It's a bummer though to have to forego the beauty benefits. Nail polish and hair color are also really toxic.
I like shampoo bars, face moisturizer, and various other products from Chagrin Valley (can buy from their website). They use little to no toxic ingredients. They also sell products like deodorant. I often like to just use a little bit of coconut oil as a deodorant, and some women enjoy making homemade deodorants for their families.
I thought you mentioned in another blog that you wash your hair at night. I like doing this too, but then my hair doesn't look or feel as good after I've slept on it. How do you avoid the less fresh/flatter look and feel?
Ugh, there are so many toxins in skin products, makeup, food, water, air, etc. these days, but it can be a fun hobby to get into finding or making healthy products. There are many great blogs that talk about this.
Love your blogs!!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Judy,
Thanks for sharing that. It's definitely true that these products aren't 100% natural, but they are still a lot safer than the vast majority of makeup products on the market. I wrote down your suggestions and will take a look at them when I use up my current products. Thanks!
I do shower at night. In the morning, I brush my hair back, flip it upside down a few times, and spray it with the Andalou Naturals hair spray mentioned in the post. That takes care of the flatness. π
Thanks for being a loyal reader!

I wash my hair with Scave shampoo. I brush my hair up side down then blow dry with a hairdryer. It makes my hair look good.
I also notice that when people wear makeup they get acne really. bad, I never got acne because I never wear makeup.
People always asked me why my face didn't have acne on it I told them I don't wear makeup.

I use Bath and Body works shower gel. Because I allergic to all other bath products. And Bath and Body Works is the only thing I not allergic to.

Hey Ellie do you also use natural deodorants? People have had problems with all the chemicals in most antiperspirants. I use Tom's a natural deodorant which I get at wegmans but I don't think its a wegmans exclusive brand. I think its available at Walgreen's and online. It may not be very effective for people that deal with lots of sweat though. I was also wondering about toothpaste. Tom's also has natural fluoride free toothpaste.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi there,
I use a natural deodorant by a brand called "Kiss My Face" (kind of a funny name). It's similar to Tom's, and it works great.

You've mentioned before that you work from home. Do you really put on makeup everyday just to stay home? I work outside of my home and still only wear makeup about 5% of the time.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I do. It makes me feel beautiful and alert. π
