Wedding Hairstyles

A couple months ago, I told you all that we had two family weddings to attend before the end of the year (my brother's and Mr. Handsome's youngest brother's). Well both of those weddings are over and done with, and they both went very well. (I posted photos from my brother's wedding back in October. Click here to view.)

Joseph (Mr. Handsome's youngest brother) and Sarah (Joseph's wife) had a beautiful wedding party of 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen. They were sweet to include all the siblings and siblings-in-law, as well as cousins and friends.

Rather than pay for a professional hair stylist, us bridesmaids gathered at the church at 9am and did our own hair. Most of us were a bit nervous about the whole thing and didn't go in with high expectations, but by the end of the morning, every single one of us looked gorgeous.

Most of us curled our own hair and then had someone pin it up. I wasn't able to take pictures of all the hairstyles, but in the midst of the wedding craziness, I managed to get three, all of which were pinned up by Mr. Handsome's cousin. She is self-taught and has a totally different career, but I think she's better than some professionals.

This is how my hair turned out...

And this is Lena, my youngest sister-in-law. Her mature hairstyle made her look much older than her 13 years.

And this is my sister-in-law Anne...

That top pic is you? Your hair doesn't look that highlighted in any other pictures you've posted lately.

    1. Yep, the top picture is me. I have natural blonde highlights and I recently had a few added to my hair, but you really can't see them when my hair is down. For some reason they are all underneath. I had to do a double take when I saw that picture because it definitely doesn't look like my hair. Lol.

What parent wants their 13 year old daughter to look years older, even if it is for a wedding?

    1. At 13 it's perfectly normal and exciting to have slightly more 'grown up' things, especially for something like a wedding!

I wouldn't mine to catch the eye of one of the ushers, or to think she's old enough to start thinking about that kind of stuff. Kids grow up too fast these days as it is.

I was in a wedding at about that age, and one of the adult male guests who'd had a bit too much "merriment" cornered me in a hallway and pinned me to the wall. I was able to duck out under his arm and get away before anything else happened, but it was scary and it's something I never forgot.

I don't think it was their intention to make Lena older. The combined hairstyle and makeup, if she wore any, made her look like an older teenager. I think her hairstyle was gorgeous, and she probably felt like a princess, which all young women deserve to feel like. Yes, middle school girls grow up too fast, I see it every day, but somehow I don't believe Lena is like that, even if I don't know her at all. It seems the world is pushing young girls to look and act more mature than they are, and sad to say, there are those men that prey on them. Ellie, the hairstyles are gorgeous!!

    4. Although she has six older siblings, Lena isn't in a huge rush to grow up. She's just pretty laid back and takes things as they come. But she and Mae really enjoyed dressing up for the wedding. When their second oldest sister gets married next year, Mae and Lena will be bridesmaids for the fourth time, which is pretty unusual for girls of their age. But they sure do make beautiful bridesmaids!

    5. I think it's okay for special days. When I was 12 I was a bridesmaid and was told I looked 16 or 17. I makes us feel special to be told we look older than we are.

    1. Thank you! :) It was a huge honor to be in the wedding, especially since I am not a blood sister of Joseph or Sarah. I really was glad they chose me, and Mr. Handsome and I look forward to making lots of memories with them now that they are a married couple. Mr. Handsome was the best man which was a huge honor for him.

  6. Wow! These are gorgeous! The only wedding I've been to, (just as a guest) I did my own hair and it took an hour. It was supposed to be easy. But I do like doing hair, it's pretty fun.

    1. Thank you, Holly! I was so glad to have help with my hair because it totally wouldn't have turned out nearly as good if I had to pin it up by myself. Haha. Do you like to curl your hair, or do you do full up-dos?

    2. I usually curl my hair, but for this wedding I did an up-do. But believe me, the number of bobby pins used was insane! Probably like 30. My hair is really thick, so anything I do to my hair takes forever. Plus up-dos and ponytails give me a headache.

    3. My hair is also really thick, and full up-dos and ponytails give me a headache as well, so I can totally relate. I prefer half-backs for that reason. :)

    4. Half-backs for the win!
      Classy and comfortable.

    1. Thank you! :) I know, isn't she good? I'll have to ask if they mind if I post pictures of them, but I'll definitely post pics of Mr. Handsome and I and the decorations. (I actual don't have any of the bride and groom on my phone.)

Looks a lot better than when I had my hair done for a family wedding. It cost me a lot!!! Somewhere around 60 something I want to say. I was disappointed with the finished style which wasn't very special at all!!!! (pony tail with barely curled hair)So its good that you guys did your own..... a lot nicer!!

Goorgeous! I always love to see diy updos. I'm picky about my hair and usually do my own (I did my own for prom.) While I respect beauticians, I also know that sometimes their vision and your own are completley different! Love the different looks, Lena looks great, totally age appropriate! :)
