I mentioned last year how much I enjoy taking winter walks. There’s just something about the crisp, fresh air that puts a person in a good mood.
Even when it’s below freezing, I try to spend at least a few minutes outside every day because it gives me a boost of energy, clears my head, and helps me sleep better. That being said, I definitely don’t like being cold, so in order to fully enjoy a winter walk, I always make sure to have proper attire.
Over the weekend, I went on a stroll through the woods with some friends. The trail used to be a rail bed and features an old railroad bridge that has to be at least 100 years old. Encountering pieces of history like that always make me ponder the days gone by. Do you have any neat nature walks/historical sites in your area?

Well, we do have a natural preserve just outside of my town called La Perla; "The Pearl" in Spanish. TBH, there are some days in which I could take a quiet stroll just like how you did.

I chuckled to myself as I read your post, simply because of the amazing scope of winter weather North America has. Being from the prairies in Canada, winter is normally snow, snow and more snow, with fridgid temperatures. We are enjoying -28 degrees Celcius, with wind chills into the -40 C this week. My outside trips usually consist of ten minutes outside, almost completely covered by clothing. I agree though…outside time Is necessary. I try to make it outside with my four boys (ages 18 months to 6) for at least a few minutes every day, although summer is much easier!!!

I agree that North America has an amazing scope of temperature. I am originally from Alberta, so I understand the cold you're talking about. The kind when you go outside and you can hardly breathe. I don't miss the cold, but I sure do miss the beautiful snow.

We have trails like that around here but too many things have happened to people on them. It's not really safe to walk them, even though they are patrolled. I don't go any further by myself than my own back yard these days!

We have beautiful nature trails where I live, but I don't walk them anymore, either. We may be a small town, but there's too much drug traffic and gang activity here, so it's not wise to walk them alone. About 4 yrs. ago, my pastor's wife and I were walking the nature trail, and we interrupted some kind of deal. I truly believe they saw angels, because they took one look at us and ran for their lives. We are located in a hotspot; GA/FLA line. I'm not afraid to live here because I know the Lord is taking care of me, but I don't like to go out of the house at night much anymore.

Those green areas & trails around any city can be centers for illegal activities. You have to be very careful. There's an organization that converts old rail lines to trails all across the US. What they fail to mention when promoting those places is that they have been the scenes of muggings, or worse…

I completely agree with you all. I had several gals with me on that trail and would never go out on a trail by myself. It's sad that it has to be that way, but it's just not worth the risk.
The story the second commenter told is amazing. What a testament to God's faithfulness. He was looking out for you!

We are a couple of hours away from the Grand Canyon. Ellie does it snow much where you live?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
How lovely! I visited the Grand Canyon as a child, but Mr. Handsome hasn't been. Maybe someday we will make the journey. Do you go often? Have you ever walked down to the base of the canyon?
It snows a little during January and February, but we rarely get more than a few inches. We had our first snowfall a few days ago (one inch) and the schools were all closed. It doesn't snow enough to make it worth it for the cities to buy a bunch of salt trucks.

We haven't visited yet. It will be our first time. We plan to go in the spring Lord willing. Right now it's a bit cold and snowy. If you do visit don't hesitate visit us in Chino Valley or our family could meet you two in Prescott for a meal. We are new to AZ and still learning where places are.

That would be very nice. We don't have plans to visit this year, but perhaps in the future. π

I love walking in the cold too! The air is just so much clearer and crisper then isn't it!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Yes! That's so true!

My lungs can't take the cold air. I get an asthma-type reaction if I exert myself. Didn't used to bother me, but then I didn't used to be this old! (LOL…I think!)

I'm sorry to hear that. Thank goodness for summer. π

I love winter walks and, in my area, there are many beautiful parks.
Happy new year Ellie and happy new year to all the readers. From France, Anne

Happy New Year, Anne! I'm sure France is beautiful in winter! Do you live out in the country?

Hi Ellie, I live in suburbs, in the north of France, close to the Belgian border. And between the coast and the countryside , the choices are plenty for a walk.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Sounds like a wonderful place! I've always wanted to visit France. Have you ever been to the U.S.? Your English is very good!

Thanks Ellie, you made my day :), even if I don't always feel very confident when I must speak or write English. I try to improve myself by watching english and american movies and tv shows without translation. And by reading english written blogs like Nashville Wife :). I've never been to the USA but it's one of my projects, hopefully in 2-3 years. I think you would like France but of course, I may be biased. Do you speak French ?

I'm glad to hear that my blog has helped you learn English! J'ai etudie le Francais pour les cinq ans. L'education etait bonne, mais j'al oublie beaucoup. Nous lisons beaucoup de livres en francais, mais on ne parlait pas beaucoup.
