Pioneer Girl by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Growing up, I was a huge fan of Little House on the Prairie. I read all the books and watched every episode of the TV series, and when I was in junior high, my dad took me to visit the places where Laura spent her childhood and adult life. Pioneer Girl is Laura’s never-before-published autobiography that has been hidden since the 1930s. I haven’t gotten very far, but it’s a great book to grab when I have a few moments to relax.
The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace. Marriage is an equal partnership, and it’s important for each party to constantly remind themselves of the principles on which their marriage is founded. As Christians, the foundation of our marriage is the Bible. This book has helped remind me what it means to be a godly wife. For those who are interested, I would be glad to share with you the other marriage books that Mr. Handsome and I have read and enjoyed.
Healing Back Pain by John E. Sarno. Last February, I began struggling with wrist pain that eventually went away and was replaced by upper back and neck pain. I visited multiple doctors and physical therapists, but none could find anything physically wrong. This book has been very helpful, and I have come to realize that the root of the issue is stress.
Contentment: A Godly Woman’s Adornment by Lydia Brownback. This is a devotional book that I pick up from time to time. It’s a great reminder to be grateful for all the blessings I have and not to be anxious for the next steps in life.
What books are you reading?

I'm always reading the Bible. But for enjoyment I love the Harry Potter series. I usually read through the entire series about once a year. I haven't really read anything else for enjoyment.
On a side note Ellie, you should look into fascia release techniques. Fascia is the connective tissue between our skin and muscles and when it's tight it can really reek havoc on our bodies. Also try rolling on a foam roller or tennis balls. Hope that helps!

I would not read a Harry Potter Book, but I have a read the Bible in a year Bible and I try to read each day on the day. So far I have quite well kept up. I am on the right day today.

I don't understand why you commented this to my post. It's your choice not to read Harry Potter. However the book is pure fiction as in not real, it's fake. It doesn't make me any less of a Christian. I too read the Bible every day and I read through it every year. If the Bible is the only book you read, I truly feel sorry for you. I pray that one day you can trust your mind to understand the difference between non-fiction and fiction. Blessings to you.

I'm currently working my way through the Anne of Green Gables series! I have always loved them. Right now I'm on Book 4.
Moon Sparkle
I like the Anne of Green Gables too. π My favourites are the first one and Anne's House of Dreams. I don't have the whole series, apart from those two I have Anne of Windy Poplars and Rilla of Ingleside. I plan to collect the whole series.
I love the Emily of New Moon books as well.
Anonymous
I have read both series, and I liked Emily of New Moon better than Anne of Green Gables.
Moon Sparkle
Cool, the Emily books are my favourite too actually. I relate to Emily more. But the Anne books are good too. π

I just finished reading "Talk to Me" by Pat Simmons. I really enjoyed reading that book.

Have you ever read the series Love Come see Softly by Jeanette Oakland. It's one of my favorites, they are so much better than the movies. I also live Harry Potter
Anonymous
The Love Comes Softly series is great. Also by the same author (Janette Oke), the Canadian West series….. lovely story. I've only read the first four (she probably hadn't written the rest yet when I read them) but will get to the complete series one of these days!

I haven't read the Love Comes Softly books, but I have seen the movies. They are great! Are the books better than the movies?

I do not read a lot but last spring I came across the hiding place by corrie ten boom while cleaning my moms house. I started in and read the whole thing thru rather quickly for my pace( my grandmother was dying over the few weeks I was reading so it was kinda an escape from reality for a while every day). But I absolutely loved that book. I learned a lot from that amazing lady

Corrie Ten Boom's book called Tramp for the Lord is excellent as well. You might like to read that one as well.

I'm currently reading the bible and a lot of romance novels. I also have to read a LOT of literature for school (15 books for Dutch and 6 for English), so that keeps me pretty much occupied π

I have the Little House books. I haven't read them for years, maybe I should get them out again. π Laura's autobiography sounds like something I'd like.
Sorry to hear about your wrist and back and neck pain. I got Louise L. Hay's You Can Heal Your Life for Christmas. I'd heard about it for years and then I finally got it from the library last year. I really liked it, so asked for it as a Christmas present. It's about how your emotions can affect your physical body and how to heal both physical and emotional issues. It's a spiritual/metaphysical book rather than a Christian one, so I understand if it's something that might not suit you but I thought I'd mention it. π
As for fiction books I just finished re-reading Anne of Green Gables. It's one of my favourite books. Before that I read Dolly by Susan Hill (The Woman in Black author) and The Lake House by Kate Morton. Love reading! π

I am reading a devotional called Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. I love it. I am also reading the Bible. I recently finished a book for a ladies study at church called Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge. It is an awesome book that goes to a woman's heart. I am also reading the classic Three Musketeers. I love reading it is how I wind down before bed at night.

I was born into a Catholic family, a Christmass and Easter type of a Catholic family and I keep wondering what exactly is a devotional? I would love some insight! Thank you!
Anonymous
A devotional is a book that helps with Bible reading and prayer. Often there is a page to read every day for a year along with suggested daily scripture readings. You could go to a Christian book store and ask for recommendations of good devotional books.

What a neat selection! I would love to know which marriage books you have enjoyed. There are so many options out there that it can get overwhelming.

I've just finished Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, which was recently released as a film. It's very thought-provoking and I cried buckets at the end!

As for your back/neck pain, you could consider seeing a physical therapist or a personal trainer (or both, actually). Strengthening your muscles and stretching them out can solve a lot of pain. A foam roller is a great thing to buy and use to stretch out. My shoulders are very tight and often painful but I get immense relief from laying on a foam roller.

I'm currently reading "Pat of Silver Bush," by the author or Anne of Green Gables, and I might pick up "Victoria," by Daisy Goodwin next because I've been watching the new series on pbs. If you've never read the Anne series, you need to! Amazing books.
Moon Sparkle
I like Pat of Silver Bush too and the sequel Mistress Pat. π
Anonymous
I have the sequel on my to-read pile right now!

Hope you enjoy it. π

Anything by Karen Kingsbury. I especially like her novel titled 'Ever After'.

Yes, equal! I just can't stand the way people use the Bible to justify seeing man and woman as not equal. Okay we are different, but everyone is different that is the beauty but that does not mean that a man is less than a woman or that a woman is les than a man.

Ellie, finding out which foods cause inflammation, and which help prevent it will go a long way to helping your neck and back issues. I have had both (and wrist pain, also!), and a combination of the right diet (trending towards vegan, with lots of raw vegetable juices), plus exercises given me by a physical therapist, plus just relaxing the muscles whenever they would tense up, has gotten rid of 99% of my pain. If I'm not mistaken, flaxseed (ground) helps with inflammation, as it has Omega 3s. There should be a lot of research on the web. One of my favorite sites is The Hallelujah Diet: http://www.myhdiet.com. It is a vegan site, founded by a pastor, and even if a vegan lifestyle isn't for you, they have a multitude of products, information, and good salad and smoothie recipes. This was the diet that I went on after several years of being in constant pain, and my pain went away. (I wasn't 100% vegan, but probably 90-95%.) The raw veggie juices were a huge benefit.
During this time period, I also began reading my Bible every day, and through the Lord speaking to me in this way, I was able to let go of some burdens I had been carrying for a number of years, so stress probably played a part, also. (I count my Bible time as the most valuable thing I have ever done for myself, ever! Meeting with the Lord in His Word each day is my best-ever favorite thing to do!) π
Saying a prayer for your pain.

I have a book arriving on Tuesday or Wednesday called Life as a Prayer:Recapturing the Wind of Headcovering by Michelle Barnes McClendon. My testimony is one of the stories featured. Though it was written back in 2009 I just never had a chance to read it.

How neat, Regina! Is the author a friend of yours?
Ellie
