In honor of Throwback Thursday, I’ll share a picture with y’all of my two-year-old self wearing a dress that was made by my grandmother in 1948.
If you look closely, you’ll notice my crooked bangs, which were the result of the haircut that I attempted to give myself. Did you ever try to give yourself a haircut as a child?
Naomi
So cute! π Yes, I have tried to be my own hairdresser before! I think the professionals do a better job!! LOL

Your adorable! I definitely tried giving my self a hair cut as a little girl and it didn't work out so well. I also think I blamed it on a boy who I didn't like. Then he later on proceeded to cut my hair. But now I give myself trims which is an interesting feat because I get really paranoid that it is not straight. You are awesome and I love reading your posts <3

Thank you, Anna Ruth! That's hilarious. I think I'm too nervous to trim my hair now, so I'm impressed that you do!

What an adorable pucture!! I did try to trim my bangs as a teenager turned out not to be the best idea.

Hahahah, I feel ya! One time, along time ago, I got tacky tape stuck in my hair and tried to cut it out myself. Things didn't go very well. At least it was in the bang reshoot and not in the middle of my hair or something so I didn't have to get to much fixed up.

That sounds messy! Thankfully I have never had to deal with that. π

You looked so cute as a kid. Yes I notice your crooked bang but don't all kids try to give themselves haircuts.
No I have never gave myself a haircut as a child.
Your dress is cute that your grandmother made.

Thanks, Beth! You must have been an obedient child!

Yes I was.

Yes! I did try trimming my bangs! It was not a good idea, I just let the professionals do it now (a.k.a. my Mom).

yes

Hahahaha! Not only did I give myself haircuts, I gave my Barbie a hair cut (my first and last Barbie by the way,) and I gave our dog a hair cut and tried to mousse the top of her head to make it stand up. I think I was a frustrated hair stylist at heart. LOL.

Haha! When I was a little older, my parents got me a Barbie styling head for Christmas so I could safely practice styling hair. But unfortunately I couldn't cut the hair, although I think I tried…

Most little kids try to give themselves haircuts I thinkπ
What a cute dress! It would be really neat if you kept it!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Thank you! My grandmother kept it, so I'm not sure where it is.
Blessings,

What an adorable picture of you! You were quite a blondie. I actually use to cut my hair when I was younger and it was long and straight. Very frustrating! One time it got quite short because I had trouble getting it even. Now I trim the bangs and leave the rest for the stylist-:). Have you ever had to do the cut gum out of the hair trick?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Thankfully I have never had to cut gum out of my hair. Have you?
Ellie

You use Peanut Butter to get gum out of your hair.

Can't see the top of the dress well but it looks smocked. My mother used to make smocked dresses for me. Hand-smocking is an almost lost art these days.
I was one of the few good children you'll hear from who never cut her own hair. I did, however, try a hairpin in an outlet just to see what would happen. That was an interesting science experiment.

Yep, it was smocked. π Yikes! Did you get electrocuted?

Do you write or have you ever written fiction? Is that something that you might consider in the future???

Hi there!
I'm in the early stages of a book based on my grandmother's World War II story, but the only fiction writing I have done was in school. What kind of writing do you do?

Oh, that is so exciting! I've actually done a few "interviews" with my own grandma in hopes of someday doing the very same thing. I love WWII history, so I'm definitely looking forward to reading your book someday hopefully! If you don't mind me asking, how old was your grandmother in the years 1941-1945?
I write mostly historical fiction (usually WWII or Civil War), but I also enjoy current-day settings. I have yet to complete a full-length novel (although that is a long-held dream of mine!), but I have written a few novellas, and innumerable short stories. π
Blessings,
Meghan C.

That's so neat!!! Have you decided if the book will be written in first or third person perspective? Is it going to be written in story form, or more of a biography???
Anonymous
That's wonderful! We need more people to record the true stories of our WWII heroes, and life on the homefront. Did your grandfather serve in the armed services during the war?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Meghan,
My grandmother was born in 1929, so she was in her mid teenage years by the end of the war. I also have a long-held dream of completing a novel! π

The story I'm writing is about my maternal grandmother, who lived in Europe during the war. My maternal grandfather was too young to serve in the military, although he has an interesting war story, too. My dad's father lived in Canada during WWII and was in the armed forces.
I plan to write the book in first person. I think I'll be able to convey more emotion that way. π
Blessings,

Oh, this is all so interesting! π I love learning about the lives of people who lived during WWII. What European country did your grandmother live in? What branch of the armed forces was your grandfather in?
Anonymous
My dad was in World War 2.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
My grandmother was German, but she was born and raised in Russia. I'm not sure what branch of the military my grandfather served in.
Blessings,
Ellie

What a sweet two year old you were and the hand sewn dress is delightful. What scissors did you use I wonder? Little plastic ones, or those little metal paper ones?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Thank you! I used little plastic ones. I think I would've poked my eye out had I used metal ones. LOL

I was a good kid I never cut my own hair.I can believe you guys you cut your own hair as a kid.
Ellie what did your parents say? Did you cut your brothers hair?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Miley,
I think they just laughed. My brother is two and a half years older than me, so I didn't cut his hair. I doubt he would have let me.
