3 Attributes

One of my readers suggested that I post the answer to the question, "What are your favorite attributes about your spouse?" Once you read my response, feel free to add yours. If you're not married, go ahead and answer the question about someone who is special to you.

1. His generosity.
Mr. Handsome is always willing to help people out, whether it means giving of his time, money, or talents. Sometimes my frugality stands in the way of my ability to be generous with money, but Mr. Handsome's example is helping me become a more generous giver. One my two brothers-in-law lives just under one hour away from us. He is single, and let's just say that cooking is not one of his talents. We are his only family nearby, so we end up sharing meals with him multiple times a week. While we often joke about the fact that he enjoys raiding our well-stocked fridge and doesn't always pay us for the food we provide, Mr. Handsome never asks his brother for money.

2. His patience.
As the oldest of seven children, Mr. Handsome has had plenty of chances to learn patience, and I am very grateful for that. Whenever I am feeling emotional, stressed out, or just overwhelmed in general, he is always willing to listen without making me feel shameful. If needed, he lovingly shares advice, but he doesn't lose patience with me, even when my shortcomings are obvious.

3. His sense of humor.
Through the good times and bad, Mr. Handsome never loses his sense of humor. Even when we are walking through one of life's storms, he has a way of shedding a ray of light by making remarks that are both lighthearted and tactful. And when he finds himself in an awkward situation, he quickly diffuses it with a witty remark. Mr. Handsome's sense of humor reminds me to find positives in all situations and to remember that I am never without hope.

Our Anniversary

Those who have have been reading Nashville Wife since its birth last spring may remember that Mr. Handsome and I married in mid June. We just celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary, and I have to say that it was my favorite "holiday" ever.

Mr. Handsome had to work that day, so we decided to do a romantic dinner at home. I made one of our favorite dishes...homemade Chipotle burritos (click here for the recipe). We drank sparkling grape juice and later enjoyed ice cream left over from our wedding (still delicious).

We only have one set of dishes, but we have a few fancy glasses that we inherited from my grandparents. To make the table look extra fancy, I bleached a white bed sheet instead of splurging for a tablecloth. LOL.

Mr. Handsome gave me a card, a bouquet of pink tulips, and a beautiful painting of one of our engagement photos. I wrote him a love note and bought him a new fishing tackle box.

As a tradition that we hope to continue through the years, we recited our wedding vows, which are displayed over our bed (click here to read). We also looked through our Shutterfly engagement and wedding albums. Do you have any anniversary traditions?

Blogging Break Over!

Hello there! I'm back from my blogging break. How have you all been? I truly have missed sharing posts with you and interacting via comments and emails over the past three weeks.

For those who didn't hear, I took a break from blogging to help my wrist pain heal. During that time, we also happened to have an East Coast vacation planned with Mr. Handsome's family, so that worked out very well.

I also saw a doctor, who ran some tests and determined that my wrists should be able to heal without surgery. He prescribed a gentle anti-inflammatory and referred me to a physical therapist. Thank you to those who prayed and shared advice and encouragement. You all are such a blessing!

We spent most of our trip in Virginia Beach and took day trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Colonial Williamsburg. Have any of you visited that region of the United States? While on the Outer Banks, we hiked up a hill to the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kitty Hawk (see above photo) and watched a play, The Lost Colony, on Roanoke Island.

Blogging Break

A few weeks ago, I posted about my struggle with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. To prevent my condition from worsening, I will be taking a two-week blogging break. During that time, I plan to still post a few photos and updates to my Facebook page.

I am incredibly grateful for your prayers, well wishes, and advice, and I look forward to returning in a couple weeks. Please feel free to e-mail me at if anything comes up during my break. :)

Facebook Live?

Happy Saturday! I hope you all are able to enjoy a relaxing weekend.

How many of you are familiar with Facebook Live? It's a new feature that allows Facebook users to broadcast live videos from their Facebook profile or page.

I have considered doing a Facebook Live broadcast on my Nashville Wife page, and I'm wondering if you all would be interested in watching? Do you have any questions or topics of conversation to suggest? I'm thinking that a weekday evening would be best, maybe around 9:00 ET/8:00 CT.

Looking forward to hearing what you all think about this!

Homemade Bubble Bath

My in-laws have a Jacuzzi tub. It's glorious. Sometimes when we're over there, I sneak into their master bedroom and have a relaxing soak.

During one particular visit, I happened to be home alone for a couple hours. Not sure how that happens in such a large family, but somehow it did. Anyways, I decided to take a bubble bath, so I looked up a homemade bubble bath recipe online.

The bubbles weren't huge, but they did the job. Here's the recipe I used:

Homemade Bubble Bath
1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
1 egg
Several drops lavender essential oil (if Castile soap is unscented)

I was in a rush, so I didn't mix the ingredients together ahead of time. That was a huge mistake, as the hot water cooked the egg! You will definitely want to mix everything together before pouring it into the bath. It works best if you pour the solution right under the water spout while the bath is still filling.

Do you enjoy bubble baths? Have you ever made your own bubble bath soap? I have seen several different recipes online. Some contain honey, while others call for vegetable glycerin. I'll have to try another variation next time I'm at my in-laws' house. :)
