Summer is fading fast, and autumn is rapidly approaching (for those of us who live in the northern hemisphere, that is). Weekend barbecues and warm summer nights will soon be replaced by fleece blankets and cozy campfires.
In past years, I was never too excited about the changing weather, but this year has been different. Ever since I pulled out the pumpkin spice wax cubes for my candle warmer last week, I have been anticipating all the fun festivities of fall.
Apple picking season is underway in Tennessee, and I’ve already started searching for corn mazes in the area. Unfortunately, the forecast is still predicting temperatures in the mid-90s, so those activities will have to wait until the weather cools off.
Are you someone who clings to the fleeting days of summer, or do you welcome the arrival of autumn with open arms?

Can't stand fall and winter dreariness, cold, darkness, dangerous weather, dead foliage, and germs sneezed everywhere. I dread it coming every year. Spring is a much more hopeful season and summer to me is life in full bloom. Yes I know you have to take the bad with the good in life, but does that really mean enduring 6 months of bad at a time? Autumn…ugh. Wake me when it's Easter again.

Not everyone thinks the fall and winter are bad months…I think they are quite beautiful in their own way and look forward to every changing season.

Ditto 1:36! Spring and summer go by too fast. Fall and winter drag their heels and winter in particular seems to last forever!

By the time Labor Day rolls around, I'm usually mentally ready for it to be fall. And I've always loved the new beginnings associated with a new school year.
Although I live in Texas, so the weather won't get the fall memo for several more months!

I live 15 min. from the Ga/Fla line. It doesn't turn cold until Feb! We did have an unusually long spring this year. It lasted more than 2 weeks.
Alisha
No, summer needs to come back! Here in Alberta/BC, it has been a chilling unseasonal 15C for the past week! The leaves are already starting to change because the weather has been so unusually cold. I am excited for the ski season to start in a few months, though.

The geese are flying south early this year out of Mb, Can.

Ohhhhh please don't tell us this! I don't want to think about polar vortices coming right behind them!

Fall is my favorite time of year. I am one of those people who is obsessed with pumpkin spice everything and loves when the leaves change. Halloween is also my favorite holiday. I even love when it gets dark at 5:00.

I LOVE fall. The colors are so beautiful!! In Quebec, winters are hard. It's very cold and we have so much snow. The snowdrifts in front of my house are pretty much always taller than me, and I'm 5'6. And here, when the temperature is under -36C, schools are closed. I remember spending days and days at home in january because it was too cold to go to school.
Still, I love winter more than summer, when it's just so hot and you feel like you are going to melt when you go outside.

Yikes! That's sounds like a harsh winter. Do you love in northern Quebec? My family once went skiing at Tremblant, and driving there from Ontario was like driving through a winter wonderland. It was very pretty!

Tremblant is a beautiful place. My hometown is right under to the 49th parallel, actually. There is a sign marking the spot where the parallels change. And it's a 3-4 hours drive from the Ontario border. But you know, Quebec is a very large province. Most people live in the south of the province because the northern half is not very…welcoming, if you know what I mean. No road, services like electricity and water are not found everywhere. It's mostly Arboriginal communities who live up there. But there are a few villages created by the mining industries.
I guess you could say I live in the northern part of the southern half of Quebec! You can Google Abitibi-TΓ©miscamingue if you want to see what my area looks like.

My dog Casey and I are miserable in this hot summer. My dog Casey is an Alaskian Malamute so she loves cool weather and so do I. We both love Fall and Winter and hope it gets here soon.

Summer is definitely my favorite season. I consider it best from January to July when the days are getting longer or are long and summery. From August to December I don't like it much. The garden and field produce/harvest is great though.
Anonymous
Were you happy with your garden?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Our plants look great! They are very tall and healthy. Lol. But the only problem is that they haven't produced very much. We're hoping for a good harvest soon.

I don't like the fall because I don't like it getting dark by 5:00. I also don't like snow and the ice. I love Spring &Summer were it stays lighter out tell 9:00 at night and you can wear shorts. I also, love watching Baseball. Go New York Yankees.π

I never used to be into baseball, but my husband is, so I've started enjoying the sport.

What does 15C mean? Never hear of that before.
Anonymous
15 degrees Celsius. In Canada we use Celsius as a measure of temperature.
Anonymous
C is for Celsius degree. In Canada, we mesure temperature in Celsius.
Anonymous
15C means 15 degrees Celsius. The Celsius temperature measurement system is in use in most of the world and is universally used for science. Canada switched to it in the 1970s. I think the US is pretty much the only country left using the Fahrenheit system. In the Celsius system, 100C is the boiling temperature and 0C is the freezing temperature. One interesting point is that -40F or -40C are the same temperature! That's the only time the two systems match up, and it's awfully cold. I'm from Saskatchewan and we usually hit it at least once or twice each winter. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of fall because I know what's coming . . .
nashvillewife@gmail.com
15Β°C is about 60Β°F. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, you " double it and add 30." That's how I always remember it.

I love fall when the season changes and with it comes the promise that the Holidays are soon to come.

Fall is second because of the nice temps..Summer would be third I love it just not any temp over 80..Winter last I hate ice and the longgg dark days and nights! By the way I'm in ND where winter is about 5 months,,the people are very nice, its cheap to live here, but I hateee the long winter!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I've heard that ND winters are long. But i've also heard that the people are very wonderful up there. You all have made a good reputation for yourselves. π

Fall is my most favorite time of year. I love the colorful leaves, the crisp air and the smell of pumpkin spice. If only fall would last as long as summer!!!
Stacey
The fall is my favorite time with the leaves changing.Plus it is my wedding anniversary on September 17th and my birthday September 24th.

Summer is definitely my favorite time of the year. But I like all of the seasons! They are all special in their own way. Fall: colorful leaves and the weather is just right. Winter: HOLIDAYS! Spring: Flowers in bloom, everything's green and again nice weather. Summer: school's out and time to hit the water!
God is amazing!
Mary Grace
I absolutely love fall! I know you make lots of homemade recipes which I think is super but I highly recommend trying Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Rolls–they are out of this world! Let me know what you think of if you have even better alternatives! Love your blog by the way!

Thanks for the recommendation, Mary Grace! Glad to hear you're enjoying my blog. Thanks for being a loyal reader. π

Why does everybody like pumpkin-flavored "this or that" (lattes, cakes, etc.) but I never hear anyone gushing about just eating plain pumpkin? I bake the little pumpkins as I would any other hard squash, and we really enjoy it as a side dish, no added spices or flavors. Am I the only plain pumpkin eater?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I've never tried that, but I'm sure it would be good. I enjoy cooked pumpkin with just a few spices, but I've only ever tried it canned.

Get one of those little pie pumpkins, take the stem off, cut it in half vertically, scoop out the "guts," then put it cut side down in a baking dish with about 1/2" of water in the bottom. Cover tightly with foil & bake at 350 about an hour, which is handy because chicken pieces bake at that same temp in about that same time. So I just slide one pan in the oven beside the other. Usually I take a huge piece of foil, line a glass baking dish with one portion of it, and fold over the other portion as the cover. Drain off any leftover water after baking, before serving. It's good! I don't even put salt or butter on it, but you could. If you like acorn squash or butternut squash, you'll like pumpkin. It's very mild tasting, like the other hard yellow squashes.

Forgot to mention, baked fresh pumpkin tastes nothing like the canned stuff! More like acorn squash or butternut squash. Try it this fall.

I love summer for its own reasons, but when fall rolls around I am so happy! I love the weather and the colors changing in the trees! I also LOVE all the fun fall activities such as apple picking, picking pumpkins, corn mazes ect.

Totally adore fall, and so excited that it's just around the corner!!! π

I really like fall, but I love winter. I especially love winter because people actually wear clothing, and not skimpy attire. Living in sunny California is nice and warm except people need lessons in modesty.

Fall is my favorite time of year. I enjoy the changing leaves, spiced drinks, decorating for the season, the fall activities. I enjoy it all!! π
