Just one week to go until Christmas! One of my loyal readers suggested I do a post about Christmas movies. I’m always up for a good holiday film. My favorites are:
It’s a Wonderful Life (my husband’s family watches it every year)
Elf (always a good choice)
The Sound of Music (not sure why people call this a Christmas movie, but I do like it)
Miracle on 34th Street (haven’t seen this one in years, but I enjoyed it as a kid)
A Christmas Story
How about you? There’s still plenty of time to watch more Christmas movies before next weekend, so I would love to hear your favorites, and I’m sure others would too.
There are plenty of lists out there that claim to be the “top Christmas movies of all time,” but I want to know what y’all think.

Love all of those! Our family loves White Christmas…the singing is fantastic!
Also love all the old puppet animated Christmas specials.

I watched White Christmas a few years ago. It was long but cute!

White Christmas and Holiday Inn are my absolute favorites. They're both from the 40s/50s, with great music. You should watch them, I know you'd love them both!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I did enjoy White Christmas. Haven't seen Holiday Inn, but I'll put it on my list. Thanks!

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

That's a funny one. A bit odd, but quite funny. Not appropriate for younger humans though…
Ellie
Jenni Mulvey
My family's favorites while I was growing up were White Christmas, A Year Without A Santa Claus, The Polar Express, and The Nativity Story.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Jenni,
I've seen White Christmas but not the others. I'll have to check them out. Thanks!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Christmas with the Kranks
Home Alone and Home Alone 2
Mrs. Brown's Boys: Christmas Crackers
nashvillewife@gmail.com
The first three you mentioned are all very entertaining. Is the fourth one a comedy as well?
Ellie
Anonymous
Yes, Mrs Brown's Boys is a BBC series in the UK. It's very much an Irish/ Scottish type of comedy. Hilarious but almost certainly not the type of programme most of your readers would find suitable. Although, having said that, the story is always really just about the importance of family and loving each other.
I've not seen many of the films mentioned here but I do enjoy some of the TV Christmas specials that are always shown in the UK.

Thanks for explaining! 🙂
Ellie
Moon Sparkle
I saw the old Miracle on 34th Street last week. 🙂
I like The Muppet Christmas Carol, All I Want For Christmas (1991) and Christmas Do-Over. The Santa Clause and Christmas With The Kranks are good as well.
Also it's not an actual film but I like to watch the BBC TV version of Beatrix Potter's The Tailor of Gloucester on Christmas Eve.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Moon Sprakle,
I've seen The Santa Claus 1 and Christmas with the Kranks (both are very good). Haven't seen the others though. I'll add them to the running list of movies that I have on my phone. What is the last one you mentioned about?
Ellie
Moon Sparkle
Hi Eliie, sorry, only just saw your comment now. 🙂
The Tailor of Gloucester is a children's story by the English writer Beatrix Potter. (The most famous of her stories was probably Peter Rabbit, you might know it? :)). It's a TV version of the story about a tailor in the 17th or 18th century, who's making a waistcoat (vest) for the Mayor who's getting married on Christmas Day. He gets ill and can't finish it, so the mice who live in the house make it for him! It's mostly animation.
Hope you enjoy the other films if you warch them. And hope you and Mr. Handsome had a good Christmas. 🙂
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Sounds like a cute movie, Moon Sparkle. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas as well 🙂

White Christmas + Holiday Inn are such classic holiday films!!! Have you seen them?
Sarah Liston
I seen White Christmas, a little long but a great movie.
Anonymous
I watch it almost 4 times a week during the holiday season…it helps me to relax, especially after a long day at work.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I agree with Sarah. White Christmas is long but very good. Haven't seen Holiday Inn, but I do love old movies, so I'll have to check it out.
Ellie
Callie D.
Those are all good choices! I would add The Santa Clause and The Muppets Christmas Carol to the list! Although It's A Wonderful Life is my absolute favorite!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Callie,
Haven't seen The Muppets, but I hear it's good!

The Christmas Candle has been a very favorite of the family. The movie is newer (produced three years ago) but it is so well done that I have no doubt that it will become a timeless movie! And it's set in England, so it makes that much more heart warming 🙂
Smiles & Blessings,
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,
I heard about The Christmas Candle when it came out, but I don't think I ever saw it. Thanks for reminding me. I do love heart warming movies! 🙂
Merry Christmas.

Scrooge and Marley: Dean Jones is a all time favorite Christmas movie in our house. We watch it every year on Christmas night.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Haven't seen that one, but it sounds like a comedy. Am I right?

Yes, It is comedy movie. we love too! 🙂
Regina
My favorites are almost the same as yours but I will try to list a few in order of preference:
It's a Wonderful Life
Miracle on 34th Street(the original!)
A Christmas Carol(Reginald Owen as Scrooge)
Christmas in Connecticut
The Man Who Came to Dinner
It Happened on 5th Ave
There is another I really like but the title escapes me and perhaps your readers know the title. It's a classic starring Betsy Blake and Robert Mitchum. Betsy plays a single mom who is engaged to another guy but she meets Robert Mitchum's character who is sort of a hobo. Anyway, I'm sure someone knows the title.
Continuing with my list is:
A Christmas Story
Elf
Snow Globe
North Pole
It will be fun to see what others favorites are!

It's called Holiday Affair- very cute movie
nashvillewife@gmail.com
You must be a fan of Christmas movies, Regina. 🙂 A long list like that is just want I needed. Thanks!
Ellie
Regina
Thank you Anon! I couldn't for the life of me remember the title. And yes Lily and Ellie I love Christmas movies. I forgot to mention The Shop Around the Corner with James Stewart and Maureen Sullivan.
Regina
Oh I forgot The Bishop's Wife and White Christmas. Somehow you just can't beat the old classic Christmas movies!
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I agree…the classics are classics for a reason! LOL
Ellie

White Christmas for sure!!! And I LOVE Sound of Music! (Christmas time or not!)

My favorite Christmas movie is the one that runs in my head. It's a collection of vignettes from my childhood…visiting Santa, going to see dept. store windows, trimming the tree, hanging up my stocking, not being able to sleep because Santa was coming, tearing into presents at the crack of dawn because I was too excited to sleep any later… I would imagine most of us have a similar movie, although the scenes will vary.
Regina
Yes, I do have a similiar! 😊
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I agree with that. My poor parents were so glad when we grew up and started sleeping in. Lol.

This isn't a movie but I love just the same. It Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas concerts. I love the music. I've never seen them in person, but probably some of you have. It's usually shown on Hallmark Channel but if you don't have it(which we don't) you can watch the concerts on YouTube.
Anonymous
I don't like them. Their frenetic music makes me nervous. It's not a soothing concert. December can be stressful enough without that kind of music.
Regina
I forgot to mention that Hallmark channels airs Trans-Siberian Orchestra Ghosts of Christmas Eve featuring Ossie Davis as the narrator/caretaker. It's only about 45 minutes on YouTube.
Regina
I understand Anon. I think I should have warned people beforehand but I noticed some of the music isn't loud and crazy.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
I love Trans-Siberian Orchestra. My first introduction to their music was at our church's Christmas program about 10 years ago. I've been hooked ever since.
Ellie
Moon Sparkle
Hi Regina, I'd never heard of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concerts, thank you for mentioning them. I just looked the Ghosts of Christmas Eve one up on YouTube and have saved it to watch later. 🙂

Don't forget about a Charlie Brown's Christmas, for the little ones.
Anonymous
And the iconic Vince Guaraldi Trio soundtrack for the big ones.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Watched Charlie Brown's Christmas for the first time last year and thought it was very cute. Haven't listened to Vince Guaraldi's soundtrack.

If you watched CB Christmas, then you heard the soundtrack. It's the music to that program.
Sarah Liston
Ellie,
Do you know how to get Elf? We couldn't get it at the library as there were like 15 holds on it, the video store nor any of the other places we went to had it, and I don't think our satellite has ABC network which I think has been playing it. Have any suggestions?
Anonymous
Can you stream it? If you have internet access. You can also purchase from walmart or target.
Anonymous
It's online. Search around, using Video as the search parameter on Google.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Sarah,
I remember having trouble finding it last year. If you use Amazon, you can download it or buy the DVD: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=elf+dvd&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aelf+dvd

I love watching Sound of Music and the Christmas movies that are on Hallmark Channel, and Hallmark Movies and Mystery channel.

My mom and I used to watch lots of Hallmark Christmas movies. I can't remember the names of any of them, but they were cute. I haven't heard of the Mystery Channel. What is it?
Ellie
Regina
Sarah,
If you'd like to buy it, you might try either Walmart or your grocery store's Christmas DVD section.

I like The Christmas Card and A Christmas Story. My husband likes It's a Wonderful Life. I got him the DVD to put in his stocking so he can watch it whenever he likes.

Nice! I'm sure he will love that!

My all time favorite Christmas movies are: 1. A Charlie Brown Christmas (nothing can replace this classic) and 2. Home Alone.

I found some good movies in thrift stores and when I was done, then I sold them to a pawn shop that sells 7 for ten dollars. There was a movie in this stuff called Christmas Bunny which I think is suited to children and adults. It might be a joke to some outdoor hunters but it has a good statement as a theme that pets and children are not throw away items, they need long term love and care. Some of you people might like this movie.
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Haven't seen that movie. It sounds cute!

My favorite Christmas movie is the Nativity Story, because it brings to life the true reason we even celebrate Christmas! Have you ever seen it? Totally worth your time!
Regina
I just finished watching The Christmas Candle for the first time. I love it and this has been added to my list of Christmas movies!Thank you to whoever suggested it!
Esther Huddleston
Fiddler on the Roof has got to be up there in my favourites. Have you ever seen it?
nashvillewife@gmail.com
Hi Esther,
I haven't seen Fiddler On the Roof, but I've heard it's good. Is it a Christmas movie?
