This weekend, we drove up to Louisville, Kentucky, for a 36-hour visit with friends. We arrived Saturday afternoon and met up with three couples at a pizza joint called Mellow Mushroom. The pizza was delicious but very crunchy–a great workout for the jaw muscles.
The first couple are close friends from Mr. Handsome’s dental school years that we try to see every several months. The second couple are friends of theirs that I also know from the organization I worked for before getting married. The third couple are folks who are friends of the first couple.
After a simple dinner at the second couple’s apartment, we chatted until the wee hours of the morning. Mr. Handsome and I slept on a queen-sized air bed, which, surprisingly, stayed inflated the entire night. Mr. Handsome has never been a big fan of air mattresses because he says he always ends up on the floor after about five hours, but this experience may help change his mind.
Before heading home, we went to church and then ordered off the lunch menu at The Cheesecake Factory. Have you ever been to that restaurant? This one was super fancy on the inside, with massive panels of glass hanging from the ceiling and huge pillars scattered throughout the dinning room. Our $10 meals were delicious, but the one downside was that it took forever to choose from the 394830 choices that the menu offered.
Oh, and after the church service, we took a random picture in the sanctuary and sent it to my in-laws, only to find out that their pastor had gone to the very same church during seminary and even knew some of the people in the picture. It sure is a small world!

Wow, Ellie. I wish I could have that kind of connection with some of my fellow schoolmates, yet sadly was I always a loner in one way or another. Either because a had a lack of friends, or because I was the top student in class.
Maybe someday. Maybe someday.

Nice to have friends. Quite an investment of time and energy but worth it all, pays dividends in happiness given and received! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Mellow Mushroom is SO good. If you ever go back, get one of the calzones! They're huge and delicious!

Ellie you are luckythatyour college bud is your sister in law. Are you two going to organize a college reunion?

Thanks for the suggestion, Amy. I've never had a calzone, but I hear they are good!
The house we lived in has a reunion every fall, but living far away, I haven't been able to go yet. Maybe this year! Have you attended any class reunions?

Two, not recent though, you with a heart full of everything you felt and remembered and and the time is jumped to the present greeting and meeting who else goes. Also my home town had a home coming the last weekend of July this past year probably weirder for the returnees but definitely polite to go back to those putting the event on.

While the inside of Cheesecake Factory may look fancy, the atmosphere is casual. Make sure you and Mr. Handsome indulge sometime and go to a fancy restaurant where you have to dress up. My husband and I try to go some place fancy to eat at least twice a year. Always a fantastic experience.

Very wise words! What types of fancy restaurants do you like best? Steak houses? Italian restaurants?

Frankly you all look like you stayed up late talking. Kind of tired and scruffy.

That's too bad you and your husband had to sleep on an air mattress for one night. We move every two to three years, and we usually sleep on our air mattress for about a month each move.

Always a fun time to reconnect with friends!
I always thought the cheesecake factory was just that… A factory where they made cheesecake! π
