A couple weeks ago, I shared pictures from our trip to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Although we only stayed for three days, it was a wonderful chance to relax and reconnect as a couple (plus soak up the Florida sunshine, which, as you may recall from my previous post, Mr. Handsome enjoyed a little too much). I have just a few more photos to show you all.
During the day, the weather was lovely (85F and sunny), but at night, we needed sweatshirts to be comfortable. Even when it's a little chilly, there's just something about being on the beach that makes a person smile. Do any of you live near the shore? Are you just always in a good mood, or does the beauty of the beach get old after a while?
On one of the days, we explored the little town of Seaside and ate from the food trucks permanently parked along the main sidewalk. Mr. Handsome ordered from the BBQ truck, while I went to the sandwich truck next door.
My meal was a delicious tomato-mozzarella-basil panini (one of my weaknesses). There's just something about those three flavors that makes my taste buds sing. Can anyone else relate?
As per usual, Mr. Handsome ordered BBQ ribs. I really wonder how many times that guy would have to eat ribs before growing tired of them. He's an adventurous eater and enjoys fruit and veggies, but when ribs are an option, it's as if they're the only thing on the menu. I sampled his meal, and it was very tasty, but I'm still glad I went with the panini.

That panini sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteNever had one though.
It was great! I definitely recommend trying one if you have a chance.

Love the picture of you and MR Handsome. It is always nice to have a time away as a couple. I lived near Lincoln City Oregon for over 2 years. The beauty never got old to me. One of my favorite things was getting up looking out my window and seeing what the ocean was doing that day. The beach is very much my happy place.
ReplyDeleteLincoln City is a beautiful place, Shela! You were blessed to live there.

You are so right Ellie! I am very blessed to have gotten to have the time in Lincoln City that I did.
DeleteI live on the shores of Lake Michigan in Michigan and the beauty of the lake never gets old :) Love your blog Ellie!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I have been to Lake Michigan, and it's beautiful place. Are you able to swim in it in summer, or is it too cold?

Food trucks have come a long way since the first time I ate from one. Your meals look so delicious!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever come to the Precott area of AZ please let me know. We will treat you two to our favorite pizza place in Prescott, Bill's Pizza!
Thank you for the generous invitation, Regina! How close are you to the Grand Canyon?

About two hours. We haven't been there yet but I hope we get to go perhaps later this summer.
DeleteI went as a child, and it was pretty neat! Also went to the Petrified Forests.

We used to live a couple of miles from the beach when we lived in CA. There were days when it was just too cloudy and chilly to go to the beach. I miss living near the ocean now that we are in Arizona.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to live at the southern beaches. Seems Mother Nature wants that coastline all to herself sometimes and will destroy anything built there as well as change the topography. I can't imagine what insurance must cost on those buildings. Plus who would want to face packing up and evacuating before a storm, not knowing if you'll have a house to come back to? Nice place to visit - if it's a park space - wouldn't want to live there.
ReplyDeleteI did live not far from water in New England (no matter where you live in New England, you're not very far from the coast), but those beaches are rocky and rugged and used to nor'easters. Plus you don't have to go far from the water there to be safely high above it in elevation, unlike Florida and other coastal areas.
I have always wanted to visit New England, especially Maine and Rhode Island. What state did you live in?

I just had a tomato-basil-mozzarella panini the other day! I find them to be delicious, definitely a favorite. Not the healthiest option, but a nice occasional meal.
ReplyDeleteLol! I agree, definitely not the healthiest thing, but a great treat and still healthier than many other foods.

Your panini looks delicious and your meals ares ones my husband and I would have ordered as well. Ribs for him, panini for me! We used to live on Vancouver Island and I miss the ocean very much. I love water and being at the beach. We do not "suntan" but would spend time , walking, exploring, boating, swimming, and flying kites, taking pics, etc. So many things to do in the fresh air near or on the water. Love it and never tired of it. Eileen
ReplyDeleteI hear Vancouver Island is breathtaking, and the weather is pretty mild, isn't it? I have been to Vancouver and Seattle, so someday I hope to make the trek to Vancouver Island.

Looks like a lovely vacation. I searched the location and thought it must be very nice there. I consider it a fair weather place. When some of the hurricanes went through that would have been scary. That is not often, I have not researched the weather patterns. Are you thinking of residing near the beach year round?
ReplyDeleteIt was a very nice place. I would love to live near the beach, but I don't think it will ever happen for us. We will just have to be content with visits!

I loveee tomato, moz cheese, and basil can't go wrong with that in a hot sandwich! I've not had a Panini yet. I'm from the MN and ND areas so I've never had the wonder and joy of living near a beach but that would be so calming and peaceful! --Stacey
ReplyDeleteCollege was my first time trying a panini, but I have loved them ever since. I have made them several times on our George Foreman, which has panini pans. MN and ND are beautiful in their own ways. :)

My daughter gave me Starbucks gift card for Mother's Day. I don't get coffee there, so I would stop every so often and got one of their sandwiches. Out of the four sandwiches, the roasted tomato and mozzarella Panini was my favorite, that was the first time I ate one........Jane
ReplyDeleteI've never tried a Starbucks sandwich, but I'm sure it would be great. Thanks for the suggestion, Jane!

Ellie, the picture of you and Mr H is wonderful, just beautiful with the ocean behind you. Eileen
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen, You are very kind. :)

I have basil plants that must be close to 3' tall now. They're like basil bushes. When the tomatoes start to ripen, I always buy fresh mozzarella and make tomato/basil/mozzarella salad.
ReplyDeleteWow, 3' tall this early in the season? That's incredible! You're making my mouth water. :)

Touched by the beauty of the picture of the two of you!
ReplyDeleteWell thank you! Your kind comment made my day. :)

Thank you for sharing this outing. That food looks delicious.

Looks like you had a nice time. :) I live near the beach but don't go very often in the autumn and winter because the weather isn't that nice then here in the UK. Now that summer's starting I've been several times recently though.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to a beach in the UK. I'm curious how it would compare to U.S. beaches. Haven't been to the UK at all, but I've seen pictures, and it's beautiful!
