This weekend, Nashville was hit with the eye of tropical storm Harvey. Tornado sirens went off at midnight, and a number of people had to be rescued from their homes due to flooding.
But as I lay in bed listening to the wind and rain pelt against our house, I couldn’t help but think of the thousands of folks down in Texas who have been suffering for days. So many people have lost everything but the clothes on their back, and some have even lost friends and family.
Rescues are still ongoing, and I am so encouraged to see our nation, as well as those from across the world, step in to help. We all have our differences, but when tragedy strikes, those with true character are able to throw those differences aside and give aid to whoever needs it.
Even after the waters recede, the folks in Texas, as well as those in surrounding states that have been hit by Harvey or remnants of the storm, will need our prayer and financial support.
If you or someone you know has been affected by Hurricane Harvey, please post a comment so we can encourage you. If you have heard positive stories of people helping people, please share those, as well. And finally, if you have creative ideas of out-of-the-box ways to lend a hand, please tell us. Looking forward to hearing from you. #UnitedWeStand #TexasStrong

Our eyes are on Irma now, too.

We are definitely watching Irma since we live in Eastern North Carolina. Watching to see if it's headed our way and what evacuations need to take place.

Weather tonight mentioned that it could hit SC near Myrtle Beach or NC near their coast. I wouldn't wish that storm on anyone. Pray it turns and goes out to sea or at least stays off the coast!

It now looks like it will rake Cuba and head into the Gulf?? Lots of time for that path to change, though.

I am watching the news reports on Irma, as well. We have friends in Puerto Rico. Very scary time for them, as well as many other islands.

It has been amazing and really inspiring to see everyone helping each other. Teachers and other community members are working as volunteers at the shelters based in local schools, neighbors with boats have been out rescuing other neighbors, and even people who have seen flooding (but didn't lose their house) are out helping those who had it worse during the storm! The community has really pulled together.
I know several people who brought various donations (like water) to the shelters that were turned away because the shelters already had too much on hand! For this reason, monetary donations to places like the Red Cross, the Houston Food Bank, and Houston SPCA are all great. Above all else prayers are appreciated though! I think that is what really has nudged so many people to come together and help each other out. So many people have heard that small voice, or known in their heart that they need to be out there and be a part of building the region back up.

Thank you for the prayers. We didn't have to leave our house, thankfully. Now, we are praying hard for the folks in the Caribbean. We know some people who live in Puerto Rico, and they are very frightened.

Praying for our fellow citizens in all of these affected areas. By the grace of God, none of my family's many friends in Houston lost anything with the flooding.

That's wonderful to hear! Joining you in prayer.
