Makeup Removal Solution

When I shop for food and beauty products, I always try to find items that are free of artificial ingredients or have as few as possible, but when it comes to my eyes, I am especially "choosy" about the products I use.

Several years ago, I stopped using generic eye makeup removal liquid from the drug store and started searching for a product with natural and organic ingredients. I went through a few brands (and also tried straight coconut oil) but still couldn't find something that I loved. All the products I tried left my eyes feeling "gooey" and my vision less clear.

It was then that I was introduced to makeup removal cloths. After reading tons of reviews, I ordered a set from Amazon. They arrived, I tried them for the first time, and I instantly fell in love. A little bit of warm water and a few seconds of gentle rubbing, and my makeup was completely gone!

The purpose of this post is to share a solution that has worked for me. It is not a product endorsement. There are quite a few makeup removal cloths on the market that don't seem to work well (based on the reviews they receive), so if you would like to give them a try, I recommend ELUME Makeup Removal Cloths. They are quick-drying, very affordable, and have a loop for easy hanging.

For a list of the other natural beauty products I use, follow this link to read my post from February 2016.

And in case you're wondering, the above picture shows what I look like without makeup. I figured that a photo of myself wearing full makeup and holing up a makeup removal cloth wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. (You would probably be wondering if it actually works!) Makeup can be a fun way to accentuate our features, and I would be lying if I said I don't wear it regularly, but the minute we adopt the "I won't be seen in public without it" mantra is the minute we start placing our outer beauty above our inner beauty.

  1. Ellie you are very pretty without makeup! I should tell my daughters about the cloths. I don't wear makeup but I'm sure my girls would love them!

I really like those microfiber makeup removing cloths, too, but I don’t like to use them on my eyes. My favorite thing to use to remove eye makeup, including long wear and waterproof eye makeup, is olive oil. I just put a tiny bit in a cotton ball or some folded up toilet paper, and it works like a charm.
As much as I enjoy makeup (it’s like doing crafts on your face!), I probably wear it less than once a month. Even simple makeup is more than I have the patience for on a daily basis.
You are very beautiful, Ellie, both with and without makeup. In my totally irrelevant opinion, you have no need to wear it regularly.

Ellie you are a lovely, beautiful lady and you do not need to wear face make up. When you wash it all off you are just as beautiful or even more beautiful as when you put it on.

If you want a cheaper alternative, I use homemade eye makeup remover: one part water, one part vegetable oil, and a squirt of baby shampoo! Works so well!

Although that is cheaper, she said she wants something with less artificial ingredients. Most baby shampoo has artificial ingredients.

Hi! Can I just add my two cents by recommending micellar water as a makeup remover? It works amazingly well - for eyes too - and it's extremely delicate, since its consistency is water-like.
I like micellar water because you use it just gently swiping your face with cotton, so there's no rubbing involved (if you have sensitive skin rubbing it could irritate it).
    Do you like micellar water?

  11. I use Pacifica brand A LOT in my daily makeup. Most of their products are awesome and made naturally. I use their face wash cakes “Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash” and I get it at target! It’s a little pricey, but SO WORTH IT! It has an amazing smell! https://www.target.com/p/pacifica-sea-foam-complete-face-wash-5oz/-/A-14405274?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=PLA_Health+Beauty+Shopping&adgroup=SC_Health+Beauty&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=m&location=9016679&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhrbTBRCFARIsACY7MW3kT0UURIRGjQyqPUB8IXijdoJAMUbojWjvCrLQDXm827C4V9UZkHcaAklBEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Can we not be satisfied with what God gives us than to always accentuate our features? I understand with a acne filled face a person would like to cover up a bit because I know it's not nice looking at a persons face like that. But I guess I just don't get it with all this makeup craze. Is it because it might give confidence? I could go there maybe. Idk, but Ellie, you look beautiful without makeup!!

Make up is not about confidence. It's about taking care of yourself. On an everyday basis I don't use a lot of it (more on special occasions), but going out without it would be kind of like going out in my pijamas. Especially for going to work or to meet people. If I'm going to do sports, or on the weekends, I let my skin rest, but otherwise I think it's cool to take care of yourself more.

Also, sometimes we don't get enough sleep, have bags under our eyes, or are very pale, so we use make up to have a fresher appearance! :)

  14. I found a wonderful homemade product that is almost magical. I'm getting over strep throat and my tongue was very sore as well. I went to the doctor and got shots and prescriptions. After a week, still in terrible pain and can't eat. I finally looked through an old almanac and found a wonderful solution. It really works better than any medicine I have EVER tried. I'm 55 years old.
All you have to do is :
    Mix one part Maalox (?spelling?)
with one part children's liquid Benadryl.
Mix well and swish in mouth and keep in mouth for as long as possible. Do it several times and you can swallow the last one. Please don't drink or eat for about 20 minutes after using. You can use it about every two or three hours. If needed!
It said that even children 4 years and older, can use it.
It really made a huge difference.
I hope it will help others.
    Bless You All!

You're a beautiful person and you look the same without makeup! I really hope this doesn't come across in the wrong way, so please know I mean nothing negative by anything I write here, but one thing I've always appreciated about your blog is the feeling of self acceptance that shines from it. It doesn't ever seem to me like you're trying to portray this perfect, sparkly, staged or photo shopped image of life. Or that you're trying to get the praise of the world or be better than anyone. So, having said that, I've been kind of curious about something as I've followed all your blogs. I wonder about how you take/deal with all the harsh, rude or negative comments that people submit. You write about families that I know some people love to hate. And the internet abounds with trolls in general. I've contemplated authoring public blogs or doing other such things that would be open to public criticism but I've been reluctant to because I don't really want to subject myself to the harshness of the internet masses. If you ever feel like sharing, I would love to hear more about how you deal with the negativity that comes your way, whether it's directed at you or the people/things you write about.

    Best Regards,
    Sarah Robinson

    1. Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your lovely words. You're very kind. I don't mind your question at all. :)

I receive negative comments on a daily basis on all my blogs. To keep them from having an effect on me, I try to read through them quickly and not allow them to really enter my mind, if that makes sense. Basically, I let them go in one ear and out the other. If I find myself thinking too much about any of them, I renew my mind with positive influences, such as God's Word.

Hope that answers your question! I'm glad to have you as a reader.
